“However, the joy and sorrow of people are not always determined by the external environment. If one’s heart is not calm, he will feel depressed even in a happy place. If one’s heart is calm, he will feel at ease even in a sorrowful place. In the past, I had the opportunity to serve as an official in several provinces. In some places, I was happy and prosperous, and in others, I was sad and struggling. I have seen the joy and sorrow of people in all sorts of situations. Therefore, when I saw the scene at Yueyang Tower, I felt neither joy nor sorrow.
“The tower is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and it stands on the edge of the world. It is a place where one can see the vast expanse of the universe.
